Tourist Attractions in Sri Lanka

StudentPortrait_21Sri Lanka is a beautiful island in the world. Even though it’s a small country, it has many natural beauties in every part of it. It is also known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. Its high mountains, cascading waterfalls, wide plains and beautiful rainforests attract tourists from all over the world.

The Sinharaja rainforest is a world famous tropical rainforest. It’s a world heritage site too. It has many species of animals, birds, plants and insects. Most of them are native to Sri Lanka. Many nature lovers visit here to enjoy the biodiversity of the forest. Peradeniya, Haggala and Victoria are very beautiful botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. They are very famous for the vast varieties of flowers, trees and plants that grow there. Waterfalls also attract many tourists. They love to take photographs in front of these cascading waterfalls.

Tourists are also interested in the historical and ancient cultural sites of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya and Dambulla are great attractions for them. Many statues, many dagabas and a lot of huge irrigation constructions are situated here. These were built by the famous kings of Sri Lanka. Kandy is the most popular cultural place. It’s a sacred city for Buddhists. Dalada Maligawa is situated here. The sacred tooth relic of Buddha is enshrined here. Many tourists visit here, especially in August, to watch the Esala Perahera.

The beautiful coastal beaches and beach resorts attract thousands of tourists. Hikkaduwa is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Sri Lanka. It is world famous for its colourful coral reefs and wide beach.

Thus, Sri Lanka with all its natural beauties, history and culture is an ever-enchanting attraction to tourists.
